outdoor shower

The summer is just beginning and I am already feeling the dread and frustration of our red dirt. It is everywhere, and it stains everything. I've been trying to get back on track with keeping up on the house (keeping it clean and tidy) ever since the tornado swept through when Tripp was born. Trying is the key word- because if you were to look at it now there would not be substantial evidence proving that's the case.

With the weather turning warm, the boys are outside a good portion of the day. In and out, in and out. And when they're out, they always manage to find the dirtiest places to play... but then they tire of the heat and want to come in for a break. But coming inside means walking on my rarely-happens newly mopped floor, and sitting on my freshly-washed white couch. (Yes, I said "my"... I'm the one who cleans them, so I get to claim them.) So, lately I've been carrying them through the house to their shower and dumping them in while they watch all their mud slide down the drain. This gets old pretty quick after doing it multiple times a day.

I've always envisioned an outdoor shower here at our place, even though any mention of one gets an eye-roll and a "eeyeah, right" chuckle from Jeff. He just can't see my vision yet... :)
Maybe I just need to show him some inspiration to get him on board!

And if inspiration is what he needs, then inspiration he will get!

Pretty sure it could become a mother's best friend...

Now if I can just keep his attention long enough to show him my sketch of where it will go...

Maybe you should take a vote from other moms to get him on board! Genius is the only way to describe the idea! My vote would be the last picture. I am obsessed with that rustic barn siding it's amazing

Most likely the last one would be the one we would do. It works with our house style pretty well... although I think we would have a least a couple walls around it for screening. So maybe some sort of combo between the last two.

With that many boys in your life, you NEED that outdoor shower! They are only going to get bigger which means more dirt! Hopefully that helped your case with Jeff. :)

My mom would have LOVED this when we were little. I can't even tell you how many times we were sprayed off with the hose! ha!

I still remember my mother (in the middle of winter - at least it doesn't snow here) refusing to let us in the house when we came home covered in mud after playing tag in the swamp (what can I say, it was fun!). She took us over to the cowshed (we grew up on a dairy farm) and used the high pressure hose to get the worst of the muck off. We were then allowed to sprint to the bathroom for a warm shower. Water she could deal with, but mud was another thing all together! Perhaps you could put together a temporary outdoor shower using hose fittings? You could hook a sprinkler wand onto a tree - they clip so that the flow continues as long as you want. If only to save your floors and sofa!
